AKTU could not take a decision within the stipulated date of 31st July, hence now even new colleges cannot be given affiliation. At the same time, the Supreme Court also granted permission to the Technical University.
The affiliation of AKTU’s colleges is stuck. AKTU could not take a decision within the stipulated date of 31st July, hence now even new colleges cannot be given affiliation. At the same time, the Technical University has not received relief even from the Supreme Court, due to which the admissions for 1.32 lakh seats for the first year of the session 2023-24 are in danger. The university administration is again preparing to approach the Supreme Court.
AKTU had to complete the process of extension of affiliation of old colleges and affiliation of new colleges by July 31 as per the rules of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). But AKTU could not complete this process. It has been claimed on the website of AICTE that all the colleges from their level were approved till June 30. AKTU also had a month’s time for affiliation, but could not take a decision on affiliation of new and old engineering colleges till July 31. After this AKTU asked for extension from AICTE but AICTE refused. Some affiliated colleges had appealed to the Supreme Court for relief, but no relief was received. Now AKTU is preparing to file a review petition in the Supreme Court.
Threat on the future of 1.32 lakh candidates
There are 749 colleges affiliated to AKTU, which have to seek affiliation extension every year. At present, the affiliation of any college has not yet increased in the session 2023-24. Due to this, all the colleges will be unable to take admission in the session 2023-24. There are around 1.32 lakh UG and PG seats in the affiliated colleges.
90 new colleges had applied:
According to sources, in session 2023-24, about 90 colleges had applied to increase seats and start new branches. But at present they do not seem to be getting permission.
